Herbert Paul Kent

Herbert Kent passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at St. John's Hospital in Maplewood, Minnesota at the age of 80.

Herbert Paul Kent was born on December 31, 1943 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was the second child of Herbert and Alice (Cort) Kent, with his older brother Gary, younger brother Doug and his sisters Judy and Linda.

Herb lived the majority of his youth in Braham and then in Pine City where he graduated in 1961. He served in the Army National Guard from 1962-1965 and was a proud veteran.

Herb began playing the drums at age 11 and played with his brothers Gary and Doug in a band for several years. His love of music lasted his lifetime and our family time was always filled with music. 

As many know, he had a passion for cars and he had many throughout the years. And at the eternally young age of 75 he bought and rode his first 4 wheeler and spent many weekends riding with family and friends.

He was loved and will be greatly missed by his family. He was truly one of a kind and we were blessed to have him in our lives.

Herb is survived by his daughter Kim (Todd) Close of Hugo; grandchildren Taylor Welsch, Ryan Welsch, Sadie Johnson, Dayton Close, Devin Close; great-grandchildren Adrian Rutledge, Ezra Rutledge, Roman Rutledge; sister Judy Kotula of Savage; brother Doug (Bev) Kent of North Carolina; nieces Josie (John) Tabaka, Kelli (Greg) Kennedy, Keri (Dave) Braswell; and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Alice Kent; wife Dianna Kent; brother Gary Kent; sister Linda Kent.

Reverend John Stiles will officiate funeral services for Herb: 3 PM; Friday, September 6, 2024 at the Olson Funeral Chapel of Rush City with a time of visitation and reviewal one hour prior to the service. The interment will take place in First Lutheran Cemetery, Rush City.
