James “Jim” Martin of Rush City passed away peacefully Thursday, November 9, 2017 surrounded by his loving family and caring staff at Abbott Northwestern Heart Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 77.James Floyd Martin was born August 15, 1940 to John and Viola (Morin) Martin in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jim lived in Lexington, Minnesota with his young family near his parents. He then followed his parents to Rush City, helping them open Martin’s Resort on East Rush Lake.Jim belonged to the Teamsters local 120, driving for Allied Auto Group. He enjoyed playing softball at a young age until he made the change to coaching a women’s team, taking them to state many times. A lifelong passion of Jim’s was fishing; from catching many limits of crappies on Rush Lake to annual fishing trips to Rainy River and Red Lake. He spent many hours tending the home garden with Lori; making soup, delicious jellies and homemade wines. Jim also liked tinkering in his engine shop where many stories and beers were shared.Jim is survived by his sweetie, wife of 27 years, Lori Martin; children: Kim Zschunke of Rosemount, John Martin of Coon Rapids, Jamie (Bill) Richardson of Corcoran, Bill (Holly) Geisler of Pineville, MO.; brother George (Pat) Martin of Chisago City; foster sister Tebetha Pillar of Burnsville; sister-in-law Barb (Dave) Hemmer of St. Cloud; brother-in-law Nick Grote of Braham; grandchildren: Ben, Jay and Emma Zschunke, Sabrina Martin, Jackson, Jane and Avery Richardson, Alaina Williams and Katie Francisco; 5 adorable great-grandchildren; nieces Erica (Mike) Pruett, Andrea Hanna, Kelli Lenz (Mike Pote), Shannon (Chad) Quigley and nephew Jason (Amanda) Martin.Jim is preceded in death by his parents John and Viola Martin; foster brother Kenny Jackson.Deacon Gene Biever will officiate at funeral services for Jim: 12 Noon; Sunday (11/19/17) with a time of visitation and reviewal 2 hours prior all at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City. Casket Bearers include John Martin, Jason Martin, Bill Geisler, Jacob Martin, Sabrina Martin, Shannon Quigley, Kelli Lenz and Mike Stenmo. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy, Grothe-Jacobson VFW Post #6692, Rush City American Legion Post #93.
