James Arthur Mevissen

James "Jim" Mevissen of Rush City peacefully passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025 at Welia Health in Mora after a courageous three-year battle with cancer at the age of 85.

James Arthur Mevissen was born on July 22, 1939 Louis and Berniece (Quinn) Mevissen in Nowthen, Minnesota.

As a young child, Jim's family moved to a farm north of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin. He enjoyed working in the fields and caring for the crops. In 1956, he joined the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. Upon returning home from his service, he met Deanna Stelton, and they were married in December of 1960. To this union, six children were born: Bart, Linda, Tony, Greg, Rechele, and Kristina.

The family resided in Stanchfield, Minnesota, before moving to Rush City in 1968. Jim worked for 30 years at Plastech Corporation until his retirement in 1999. He loved farming, fishing, and spending time with his family. His hobbies included looking at cars and collecting tractors. Jim enjoyed working with his hands, building projects in wood and metal in his garage.

Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Deanna Mevissen; children Bart Mevissen, Linda Mevissen, Greg (Angela) Mevissen, Rechele (Matt) Gagne, and Kristina (Jason) Katz; grandchildren Alissa Johnson, Brittany Mevissen, Carly Gosar, Dayna White, Connor Mevissen, Andrew Mevissen, Alison Zetah, Ashley Haider, Toni Mevissen, Georgia Hancock, Joey Shreve, Chloe Mevissen, Brooklynn Mevissen; 12 great-grandchildren; sister Rose McFall; brothers Jerry Mevissen, Bill Mevissen.

He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Berniece Mevissen; son Tony Mevissen; sisters Lillian Kedding, Delores Hall, Kathryn Mevissen; brothers Phil Mevissen, Frank Mevissen, Mike Mevissen; daughter-in-law Kathy Mevissen.

Funeral services for Jim: 11 AM; Saturday, February 22, 2025 with a time of visitation and reviewal planned for one hour prior to the service all at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City. The interment will take place in the Free Mission Cemetery, Rush City.
