Jim Norman of Grasston passed away peacefully Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the age of 94.
James Warren Norman was born April 28, 1930, to Axel and Helen (Schwartz) Norman on a farm in Nessel Township, Chisago County, west of Rush Point. When Jim was two years old his family moved to a farm west of Lake Pokegama in Pine County; and it is on this farm he lived the remainder of his life. He attended Jarvis Bay Country School from first grade through the eighth grade. In 1947, he graduated from the Pine City High School
Jim worked for seven years at Howe Potato Farm in Henriette. In 1954, after the death of his father he took over the family farm. In 1957, he was honorably discharged from the Minnesota National Guard after serving for nine years. He met Carol Scheuer in 1955, and they were married in the Little Brown Church in Iowa. They raised their three children Doug, Vicki and Sandra, on the family farm. He was employed at Broz’s Pine City Feed Mill for fourteen years while also working the family dairy farm. In 2017, he retired from farming.
He enjoyed deer hunting and shot many nice bucks and was especially proud of the 230 pound buck. Jim loved the farm, working with his favorite tools which were his 4-wheelers. One of his prized possessions was a 520 John Deere tractor he purchased brand new in 1958. That John Deere is still being used on the farm today.
The family picnics and holidays were two of the things he most enjoyed. He had a very sharp mind and could recall events and happenings as if it was yesterday or seventy-five years ago.
Jim never said “no” to his family, his philosophy was, as long as you were willing to work, he was willing to help.
He is survived by his children Doug Norman, Sandra Norman (Ken Stroeing); granddaughter Jenny (Travis) Smith all of Grasston; great grandchildren Sada, Maverick, Hunter, Waylon; sister Marge Osterdyk of Richfield; sister-in-law Jodi Norman of Grasston; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Axel & Helen; wife Carol; daughter Vicki; granddaughter Jackie; brothers Richard, Bill; sisters Virginia, Marilyn; brothers-in-law Melvin Osterdyk, Hector LaDouceur.
