Jay Mitchell Mitthun

Jay Mitchell Mitthun of Rush City, Minnesota was born August 20, 1969 at Forest Lake Hospital to Dennis and Valerie (Thunstrom) Mitthun. He passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at the age of 54.

He was a quiet, trusting, soul who saw the best in everyone. He was gentle-hearted and never had a bad word to say. We knew we were loved by him, without the words being spoken. Jay’s nephews and nieces were especially important to him. He and his mom were best friends.

Growing up in North Branch, Jay loved hanging out with his friends—they were even able to get into a bit of mischief together. He worked as a teenager picking rocks on the Peterson farm in Almelund. Jay loved snowmobiling, camping with family, and fishing. He had three boats--none of which worked that well. He and his mom enjoyed watching the Vikings and Timberwolves and playing cards (10-9-8, in particular) together.

Jay enjoyed his many years working at Dennis Kirk in Rush City and the wonderful friends he made there, especially his supervisor, Virgil, and Laura who was so kind as to transport him for work each day.

Jay is survived by his mother Valerie Mitthun; siblings Adam Mitthun and Alecia Mitthun; nephews Dylan Mitthun, Seth Mitthun, Xander Brant; nieces Elaina Brant and Evie Mitthun; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends will miss Jay, too.

He was preceded in death by his father Dennis (May of 2023); uncles Stan Mitthun, Rick Broughton, Rev. James Thunstrom, Philip Rainer; aunts Mondora Broughton and Camille Rainer.

A gathering of family and friends will take place from 10 AM- 12 Noon, on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City.
