Jerome Nordrum passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at Essentia Health in Duluth at the age of 61.
Jerome Carl Nordrum was born July 18, 1963 to Norman and Janice (Tracy) Nordrum. He attended Pine City Schools, graduating in 1982. It was during his senior year skip day he met Dawn Nybeck (yes, Dawn was in 10th grade, and she did get grounded). After high school graduation he was employed with Atscott Manufacturing in Pine City.
On September 7, 1985 Jerome and Dawn were married. Their first daughter Jessica was born April 13, 1987, followed by Chelsey born March 24, 1994. In 1994, he found his real passion for construction and became a general contractor for Jerome Nordrum Construction.
In 2002, Jerome and Dawn bought 120 acres of hunting land, building their dream cabin. Not too many weekends were not spent there. It was Jerome’s pride and joy, he always had one more project to complete, unless he could drag Dawn to a meat raffle.
He felt blessed with the birth of two beautiful granddaughters Peyton and Hayden, they were pretty much the loves of his life.
Jerome had many passions; fishing all four seasons at the Lake of the Woods with his great friend Les and his family. Deer season at the cabin always with Dawn near by in her stand. So many wonderful memories were made with our cabin friends. He had a knack at playing cards, some might even say “he had a horseshoe up his AXX” because he was always winning.
Traveling was another an adventure with Jerome, many memorable trips with family and friends to Laughlin, Nevada and Mexico where Jerome could use his “accent”. There were camping trips with friends and family where he was always wondering where the “little ladies” Peyton and Hayden were and what they were up to. Many evenings to relax after work he spent in his side-by-side taking in the beauty in nature. He wasn’t one to be still, whether it was wood splitting, clearing trails, building something or just hanging out with friends.
In 1997, Jerome donated a kidney to his brother Brad, forever thankful Brad and his family have always said “there’s a special place reserved for him in heaven”.
Jerome’s 39 years in the “neighborhood” were spent with amazing neighbors that became family, always enjoying time together and helping each other out. He was a ray of light that brightened everyone he met. His laugh, smile, playfulness and dedication to his family and friends will always be honored. All that he was makes his loss so much harder. How lucky we were to have him in our life.
Jerome is survived by his wife Dawn Nordrum of Pine City; daughters Jessica (Toby) Borgstrom of Pine City, Chelsey Nordrum (Garrett Hall) of Brook Park; grandchildren Peyton and Heyden Borgstrom; siblings Debra Umpress of Pine City, Wanda (Michael) Chustz of St. Paul, Brad (Joyce) Nordrum of Pine City; father-in-law Victor Nybeck; sister-in-law Renee (Skip) Peterson of Pine City; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Norman & Janice Nordrum; sister Lori Doran; mother-in-law Carolyn Nybeck. A celebration of Jerome’s life will be held 3-8:00 PM; Thursday, September 5th at the Pine City Event City, Pine County Fairgrounds.
