JoAnn Trampe would tell you that she was a “morning person,” so it is only fitting that she left us on a beautiful sunny morning Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth at the age of 85.
JoAnn Carol Mueller was born Dec. 28, 1937 to Ralph and Estelle (Heimkes) Mueller in Hamburg, Minnesota. She attended Emmanuel Lutheran School, graduating in 1955 from Central High School in Norwood Young America, Minnesota. In 1959, she received her degree in social work from Hamlin University in St. Paul. During this time, she met David Alan Trampe, the two were married on May 5, 1960.
JoAnn’s career began at the Sauk Centre Home for Girls, eventually Ramsey Hospital in St. Paul. In 1967, they moved to Pine City where JoAnn dedicated her life to being a mother and homemaker. She was involved in her children’s activities and loved to collect recipes, sew, crafting, and read in her spare time.
She eventually returned to social work and was employed at Lakeside Nursing Home before becoming a child protection worker for Pine County Health and Human Services. It was during her years in Pine County that she met her dear friend, Roberta Reilly. The two were inseparable and JoAnn’s family “adopted” her as “auntie Reilly.” JoAnn and Reilly loved to meet up with friends at Mom’s Parkside and Nicoll’s Cafe. Together they enjoyed the challenge of completing jigsaw puzzles. They especially loved building and decorating doll houses for JoAnn’s granddaughter Kathryn and Kathryn's friends.
In October of 2022, JoAnn moved to Cloquet to be closer to her daughter and family. Unfortunately, her health began to rapidly decline in April, eventually leading to a month of hospitalization prior to her passing.
JoAnn is survived by her daughter Jill (Scott) Elwood of Carlton; son Cory Trampe of Pine City; grandchildren Kathryn Elwood of St. Louis Park, Eric Elwood of Carlton; brother Bob (Judy) Mueller of Norwood Young America; nieces and nephews Tammy, Tim, Traci and Troy, along with their spouses and children; former husband David Trampe of Longville, Minnesota; numerous Trampe nieces and nephews whom she always considered family; many friends and co-workers.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ralph & Estelle Mueller; dear friend Roberta Reilly.

A time of visitation for friends and family will be held from 10-11:00 AM (7/7) prior to the service and a funeral luncheon will be held immediately after the service all at the church.
