It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John "Jay" Wood Huebscher of Rush City, beloved father and grandfather, who passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at the age of 83.
Born on August 23, 1941, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Jack and June (Wood) Huebscher, Jay spent his youth in Edina with friends who became lifelong companions. He was voted class president of Edina High School, where he also helped run a pet shop and found lifelong companionship in animals. After briefly studying at the University of Montana in Bozeman, he co-founded a successful business distributing construction materials.
In 1972, Jay married Judy, and they had four children. His family's fondest memories of him were summers spent fishing, swimming, boating and enjoying bonfires in Half Moon Lake, Wisconsin, and Lake of the Woods, Ontario. After relocating to Florida in the early 90's, he returned to his true home of Minnesota and bought a house in St. Paul. In 2020, he relocated to Rush City to enjoy the quiet and stillness of living closer to nature.
Faith was always important to Jay and contributed to his large social circles. He attended St. John's Episcopal Church in White Bear Lake, where he was part of the choir. He later became an active member of St. Clement's Episcopal Church in St. Paul.
Jay treated life as a never-ending cocktail party, always surrounded by family, loved ones, and friends. His humor and charm earned him a reputation for quickly making new acquaintances, and he was known for asking "twenty questions" as an icebreaker. He could make the shyest of folks open up, which often sparked new connections. An avid reader, he required little to keep himself content, and could find happiness in the simplest of moments.
Jay is survived by his children Jason (Jami) Huebscher, John (Christina) Huebscher, Andrew Huebscher (Jason Oclaray), Molly (Paul) Benoit; grandchildren Savannah, Hunter and Liam; ex-wife Judy Huebscher-Woll; sister Karen Kane; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and June Huebscher and sister Jeanne Williams.
Jay will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all of who loved him.
A celebration of Jay's life will be held at the Hawk's Nest Bar (Purple Hawk Country Club), 36300 Hwy 65 N, Cambridge, MN 55008; 3:00-6:00 PM; Monday, January 6, 2025, where friends and family can gather to share their memories and honor his legacy.
