Jon Frederic Kay Scheele

Jon Scheele of Braham passed away Thursday, September 9, 2021 at United Hospital in St. Paul at the age of 88.

Jon Frederic Kay Scheele was born May 8, 1933 to Fritz and Mamie (Kloock) Scheele in Braham, Minnesota.

Jon grew up on the farm and attended Braham school.  He joined the Navy after his Sophomore year and resumed his studies upon completion of his military service, graduating in 1953. He worked at the Braham Hospital as an X-Ray technician as well as working on their dairy farm. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier retiring in the early 90’s.

Jon enjoyed being a Mason and a Shriner and giving away tickets to the Shrine Circus and the Masonic Pancake Breakfasts, Chili and Clam Chowder suppers.  He loved his cows and dogs and was even partial to barn cats.  He was active in his church with choir, singing at funerals and service recordings for the radio as well as waffle breakfasts and roast beef dinners. 

Jon is survived by his wife Gerda Scheele of Braham; children Greg (Kathy Needham) Scheele of Braham, Lisa (Bryan) Asbe of Mason City, IA, Susan (Rick) Stapes of West Des Moines, IA, Mark (Kathy) Johnson of Edina, Jeanne (Todd) Shermer of Hermantown, Terry (Dan Kurtz) Johnson of Occidental, CA, Randy (Michelle) Johnson of Roseville, Kenny (Akiko) Johnson of Long Beach, CA, Steven (Pao) Johnson of Minneapolis; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; many other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents Fritz and Mamie Scheele.

Pastor Julie Beck will officiate at funeral services for Jon: 1 PM; Friday, September 24, 2021 at the Braham Evangelical Lutheran Church. A time of visitation and reviewal is planned from 5-7:30 PM; Thursday, September 23 with a Masonic Service scheduled for 7:30 PM at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City.  There is also a time of visitation and reviewal planned for one hour prior to the service at the church. The interment will take place in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery on Rush Lake.
