Joseph Andrew Saumer

Joe Saumer passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at his home in Pine City after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 61.

Joseph Andrew Saumer was born July 6, 1963 to Andrew and Ella (Taylor) Saumer in Rush City, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm in Pine City, attended Pine City schools and graduated in 1981. October 1, 1988 Joe married Lynn Holscher of North Branch. They raised their two daughters in Pine City. 

Joe owned and operated a small business in Rush City, Minnesota. He had worked several places before settling in at Cavallin Ford, retiring after 32 years of employment. He enjoyed snowmobiling, demo derbies, woodworking, hunting, playing cards, annual fishing trips and camping. He enjoyed supporting his daughters in all their school and Girl Scout activities. He was active in many local organizations. Over the last several years, the Hickory Lake campground felt like a second home, it held a special place in his heart and it was where he made many memories with family and friends. Spending time with his family and friends brought him the greatest joy. 

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Lynn Saumer of Pine City; children Jaysa Saumer of Duluth, Kelly (Ryan) Tracy of Pine City; siblings Dan (Sue) Saumer of Pine City, Teresa (Tim) Clark of Hinckley, Steve (Laura) Saumer of Pine City, Ann (Garland) Crider of Grasston; Michelle (John) Carter of Alberta, Alabama; brothers/sisters-in-laws John Holscher of Center City, Karen (Ron) Willing of Chisago City, father/mother-in-law Robert (Arlene) Holscher of Mora; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Andy & Ella Saumer; daughter Jessica Saumer; sister Mary Saumer 

Monsignor Aleksander Suchan will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph: 10:30 AM; Tuesday (12/31) at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. A time of visitation and reviewal 5:00-8:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:30 PM at the Swanson Funeral Chapel on Monday (12/30) and one prior to the Mass in St. Anthony Commons at the church.
