Joyce Kathleen Lindquist

November 17, 1925 — August 20, 2024

Pine City

Joyce Kathleen Lindquist, age 98, passed away peacefully in the company of family on August 20, 2024, in her apartment at Northern Pines Assisted Living in Pine City.

Joyce was born on November 17, 1925, in her parents' home in Hinckley, to Charles and Kathleen (Keen) Spry. She was baptized in Grindstone Lake at age 11. She graduated from Hinckley High School in 1943.

Valuing higher education and the love of medicine, she started her post secondary education at the University of Minnesota and transferred to the Swedish Hospital where she received her nurse's training.

She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1949.

She married John Willis Lindquist on January 20, 1951, at the Presbyterian Church in Pine City. They had four children: son John Allen, daughters Andrea, Adrienne and Miriam.

Her nursing career included working at Braham Hospital, Lakeside Nursing Home, Pine County Home Visitor Nurse, and helping with school vaccination clinics. During the years that she and John were snowbirds in Mission, Texas, she volunteered at Mission Hospital where she received an award for her volunteer service. Shorty after 9/11, she traveled with Volunteers in Medical Missions to the Ukraine to help in several remote rural communities where they conducted clinics and ten orphanages for two weeks.

She was a member at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church for 72 years where she volunteered as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, crew leader for Vacation Bible School, secretary of WELCA, a member of Joy Circle, helped with the annual Christmas programs, sang in the church choir, was involved in the quilting group, communion server for people that were homebound, served and provided food for funerals, helped with the elderly and served as the Parish Nurse.

She was an avid reader and attended multiple book clubs. She served her community as a board member for the Public Library, sang in the Senior Citizen Choir, volunteered for Family Pathways as a home visitor, and provided transportation, was a den mother for Cub Scouts and troop leader for Girls' Scouts of America. She loved to swim, dance, knit, bicycle, and in her later years, ride her adult tricycle. Playing games was one of her favorite pastimes. She was a voracious consumer of world and national news, keeping us up on current events. She and John traveled extensively in the U.S. and Canada. After John passed away, she traveled to England, Scotland, Norway, Sweden, Wales, Holland and Denmark.

Joyce was a caring woman with a giving spirit. Even in her passing, Joyce has chosen to help others by participating in the University of Minnesota Medical School's Anatomy Bequest Program, which supports high quality education for future health professionals and continued advancements in medical care through research.

Thank you for being part of Joyce's celebration of life. We are celebrating a life well-lived and a woman well-loved.

Joyce is survived by her four children: John Allen (Denise) Lindquist, Andrea (Jim Parnow) Lindquist, Adrienne (Steve) Roubinek, Miriam (Greg) Drahosh; 10 grandchildren ;18 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
