Karin Ann Bloomquist

Karin Bloomquist of Andover passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids at the age of 64.

Karin Ann Pixler was born December 3, 1958 to Richard and Katherine (Johnson) Pixler in Chicago, Illinois.

Karin graduated from Edina and studied at Bethel and Trinity Christian College. In 1980, Karin married Howie Bloomquist. They lived in Pine City raising three kids: Krista, Bryanna, and Brock. Karin was an amazing “Mia” to eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She made each of them special with her listening ear. Many games of Dominoes, Uno, Legos, and Playdoh building brought laughter and many fond memories. She became a widow in 2014 which prompted a new chapter for her of discovering inner confidence and learning to lean on and trust God.

In 2021, Karin suffered a stroke. She showed her determination and grit as she overcame the obstacles that came from the stroke. By her side and her family was Brian Gronquist whom she married to start a new chapter and adventure with.

A good friend of Karin described her perfectly, “If you knew Karin…. You knew she was always smiling. You knew she was incredibly kind. You knew she had a peaceful presence. You knew she loved Jesus deeply. You knew she was at all of her grandkids events and supported their friends too. You knew the grandkids and friends would choose to play games at her house because it was more fun with her. You knew she dressed up at ladies retreats with the best costumes for everyone’s entertainment. You knew you weren’t judged. You knew she apologized even when there was nothing to apologize for. You knew you were loved. You knew you were among one of the most beautiful souls. If you knew Karin, you knew you were blessed beyond measure.”

In September, Karin suffered another stroke. This time God called her home to be with Him. Her smile and spunk will be greatly missed.  

Karin is survived by her husband Brian Gronquist of Andover; parents Dick and Kay Pixler of Cambridge; children Krista (Graham) Rose of Maple Plain, Bryanna (Jared) Clementson of Pine City, Brock (Melanie) Bloomquist of Pine City; grandchildren Brynn, Brooke, Bronson, Weston, Annika, Miraya, Luke, and Faith; great-grandson Oakley; siblings Mark Pixler of Minneapolis, Karl (Julie) Pixler of Richmond, KY; many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband Howie Bloomquist in 2014.

A celebration of Karin's life is planned for: 11 AM; Saturday September 16, 2023 with visitation 2 hours prior at Journey North Church in Pine City. A fellowship luncheon will follow the service.
