Laurence Donald Gardner

Laurence Gardner, age 88 years, 4 months and 29 days of Pine City passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023 at his home at the age of 88.

Laurence Donald Gardner was born at home east of Pine City on April 24, 1935 to Lester and Rose (Shermer) Gardner. He wasn't expected to live but he proved the doctors wrong.

Laurence grew up up east of Pine City working and helping on the farm. He finished 8th grade and at age 17, he joined the Navy (Sea Bees) where he served from 1952-1956. A part of which was during the Korean War conflict. After his time in the Navy, he was talked into the cement business. He worked with his dad for a year then moved on to work for Vern Donnay from 1958-1973. During that time he moved to Pine City where he farmed from 1970-1984. He also worked for KG Marcy where he retired from in 1992.

On February 16, 1957 he married Patricia Pottratz with whom 3 children were born. They moved from Monticello to Pine City in 1970 where they stayed (with a couple of exceptions) until the present.

Laurence will be remembered by his loving wife of 66 years, Pat; children Allen Gardner, Darcy (Violet) Gardner, Penny Skog (Mark Manthie); grandchildren Allison, Mike, Missy, Tom “TL”, Sonja, Shauna; great-grandchildren Greyson, Dexter, Olivia, Luke, Brody, Sara, Jon; siblings Lloyd Gardner, Sharon Lee Krueger, Leona (Gary) Okerstrom, Michael (Kathi) Gardner, Dale (Janice) Gardner, David (Sheree) Gardner, Roxanne (Joe) White, Brian Gardner, Terry Gardner; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Laurence was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Rose Gardner; step-mother Berniece; grandson Jesse Skog; siblings and spouses Leonard (Lorraine) Gardner, LeRoy (Phyllis) Gardner, Leon Gardner, Bert Gardner, Hugo Krueger, Sharon Gardner.

Funeral services for Larry: 11 AM; Monday, October 2, 2023 with a gathering of family and friends planned from 2-5 PM Sunday (10/1) and also one hour prior to the service all at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City. The interment will take place in the Czech National Cemetery, Pine City.
