Marjorie Ruth Odendahl

Margie Odendahl passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at her home in Pine City at the age of 63.

Marjorie Ruth Hanson was born August 7, 1961 to Rudy and Eleanor (Elfstrum) Hanson in Mora, Minnesota. The youngest of ten children, she was often found climbing trees and playing with the pigs. She started school in Brook Park, eventually attending Pine City Schools. In high school, she ran cross country, was manager of the wrestling team, and sang in the choir. She was also active in the choir at Brook Park Methodist Church. In 1979, she graduated from Pine City High School.

After high school, Margie started in college in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, eventually moving to Rochester, Minnesota, and then White Bear Lake to finish her Associates degree in nursing. Along the way, she met Curt Odendahl near Beroun, Minnesota. Curt and Margie married June 7, 1986 at Brook Park Methodist Church. They welcomed their son, Joseph, in 1986, and daughter, Sarah, in 1990 before moving to Sunny Brook Farm, which had been in Curt’s family for several generations.

Margie was a registered nurse and spent most of her career at Kanabec Hospital (Welia Health). She was still a proud bedside nurse at the time of her death, having served the hospital for over 34 years. When not working, Margie was an avid quilter and crocheter, tended her flower and vegetable gardens, and cared for the animals on the family farm. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her life, and she spent as much time as possible with them and her extended family.

Margie is survived by her husband Curt Odendahl of Pine City; daughter Sarah Odendahl of Pine City; son Joe (Amy) Odendahl of Beroun; grandchildren Wyatt Odendahl, Callie Odendahl, Isaiah Niles; siblings Ronny (Shar) Hanson of Brook Park, Dennis (Sharon) Hanson of Utah, Carol Hanson of Brook Park, Gary Hanson of Quamba, Marvin (Pat) Hanson of West Concord; Jo Towle of Ogilvie, Janet (Wayne) Towle of Blaine, Gene (Julie) Hanson of Wisconsin, Harlan Hanson of Byron; mother-in-law Joann Odendahl; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Rudy and Eleanor Hanson; father-in-law Earl Odendahl; sister-in-law Joy Skalicky; nephews Cary Hanson, Brice Towle, Wayne Towle Jr; great-niece Ashley Winkles.

A celebration of life for Marjorie; 4-7 PM; Wednesday (9/25) with a 5 PM memorial service officiated by Jerry Crowell all at the Pine County Fairgrounds Event Center in Pine City.
