Mike Simonson formerly of Cook passed away quietly surrounded by his family on Monday, October 28, 2024 at his home in Pine City at the age of 82.
Michael Jerome Simonson was born September 3, 1942 to Jesse and Norma (Anderson) Simonson in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He rounded out their family of four adventuresome boys. His father was a logger, which meant he called many towns and states home as they moved to where work was most plentiful.
Michael learned to work hard from an early age, keeping pace with his father and older brothers. He developed a keen interest in automobiles, and quickly gained in knowledge and mechanical skill. These he furthered during his years of proud service in the Army National Guard, where he also emerged a talented cook.
Michael met his wife, Mary, and wasted no time asking for her hand. They were married in January of 1965, and built a life together raising three sons: Dean, Chad, and Kurt. He continued to work in the automotive field; firstly as a shop foreman, and later through equipment sales. His knowledge, ability, and work ethic earned him the respect and trust of his customers.
Michael loved cars, motorcycles, and snowmobiles, and enjoyed sharing these activities with his wife and children. He also had a fondness for camping with motorhomes and trailers. He would beam with pride and joy as he prepared to take his family on a trip.
Mike is survived by his loving wife Mary Simonson of Pine City; sons Dean Simonson of Pine City, Chad (Jennifer) Simonson of Grasston, Kurt Simonson of Long Beach, California; grandchildren Michael Simonson (fiancée Elleanna Wiering), Ryan Simonson (fiancée Alyssa Schwartz), Brooke Simonson (fiancé Aidan Latterell); brother Jerry (Irene) Simonson of Silver Bay; sister-in-law Muriel Simonson of Cook; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse & Norma Simonson; brothers Don Simonson, Duane (Sherry) Simonson.
Pastor Joel Preston will officiate at funeral services for Michael: 2 PM; Saturday (11/2) at the First Presbyterian Church in Pine City with a one hour visitation prior to the service at the church.
