Myron "Mike" Lofgren of Elk River, Minnesota passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids at the age of 87. Mike was admitted to Mercy Hospital on Christmas Eve; diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Myron John Lofgren was born on November 14, 1931 to Elmer and Ida (Swenson) Lofgren in Harris, Minnesota. He graduated from Rush City High School in 1949. From 1952 to 1954, during the Korean War, Mike served his country in the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge as an Army Sergeant, he returned to farming in the Rush City area. On October 23, 1954, he married Bonnie Payne. Together they farmed until 1961 when Mike joined the Minnesota State Highway Patrol. In 1983, he retired as a Sergeant from the Minnesota State Highway Patrol. After retiring, he and Bonnie formed the Lofgren Associates, Incorporated; traffic accident reconstruction consulting. He continued to actively reconstruct crashes into his 80's.
Mike and Bonnie were able to travel the world over the years. He and his daughter, Shelley, enjoyed an annual trip to Las Vegas that spanned 33 years. His stories and quick wit will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Myron was a 60 year member of Jasper Masonic Lodge #164 and a long-time member of Grothe-Jacobson VFW #6692 both in Rush City and the Harris American Legion Post #139 in Harris.
Mike is survived by his wife Bonnie Lofgren of Elk River; children Jeff (Pam) Lofgren of Springfield, Missouri, Dan (Kris) Lofgren of Princeton, Shelley (Dan) Peetz of Isanti; 7 grandchildren: Mike (Jackie) Lofgren of Sartell, Peter (Sarah) Lofgren of Maple Grove, Christopher (Kristina) Lofgren of St. Paul, Britta (Derek) Noble of Dallas, Texas, Tanner Peetz of Isanti, Clint (Krissy) Peetz of Cambridge, Bailey (James) Cameron of North Branch; 15 great-grandchildren: Isaak, Emma, Dean, Eve, Charlie, Mae, Luke, Summit, Kaylee, Braxton, Zoey, Jarek, Jimi, Chandler, Elise; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Ida Lofgren; brother Lyle (Liz) Lofgren; granddaughter Paula Lofgren.
A time of gathering and reviewal is planned: 4-7 PM; THURSDAY (1/3/19) with a Masonic Service at 7 PM (open to the public). A Service of Remembrance for Myron is scheduled: 1 PM; FRIDAY (1/4/19) all at the Olson Chapel in Rush City, 320-358-4735. The interment will take place in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Harris following the service.
