Paul Tubbs of Chisago City passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at his home at the age of 86. Despite his numerous medical issues over the recent years, he never lost his trademark sense of humor and was cracking jokes until the very end.
Paul Dean Tubbs was born August 6, 1936 to Lonnie and Bonnie (Mitchell) Tubbs in Boothspoint, Tennessee and grew up on the banks of the Mississippi River in Dyersburg, Tennessee. He loved telling stories about working out in the cotton fields and dealing with frequent river floods.
Paul’s congenial nature made it easy for him to strike up conversation with just about anyone. He used this skill and business acumen to have a successful lifetime career in sales. Paul began his sales career in Tennessee and later moved to Gary, Indiana to work for Kinney Shoes. Here, he met Beverly Peterson and had his first child, Jerry.
He relocated to the greater Chicago area in the late 50's, working his way into Kinney Shoes management and earning awards for sales accomplishments. While here, Paul and Beverly had two more children, Jeffrey and Kelli Rae. Paul served in the Illinois Army National Guard for six years and was honorably discharged in 1962. While living in the greater Chicago area, Paul became “Farmer Brown”, the face of Brown’s Chicken. He appeared in advertisements and represented the chain at parades and other marketing events.
In 1972, Paul moved with his family to Forest Lake, Minnesota where he continued his sales career selling cars. Not too long after, Paul ventured into real estate, becoming a Realtor, custom builder, and broker. For nearly 50 years, he helped thousands of people find their homes.
Paul valued his connection with the Forest Lake community where he was a founding member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Lakes Area Business Association. He also loved music, especially gospel music, and singing with his children.
In 1996, Paul moved to Rush City to combine households with Cyndy Greene and enjoyed numerous dinners with friends and sunsets over East Rush Lake. Paul and Cyndy moved Tubbs Realty from Forest Lake to Rush City in 2003. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church, serving on Church Council and he immensely enjoyed the Buffalo Dinner.
Paul and Cyndy moved Tubbs Realty back to Forest Lake in 2015 and later moved to Green Lake in Chisago City. Paul loved sitting on his deck and watching the lake activity.
Paul is survived by his wife Cynthia Tubbs of Chisago City; children Jerry (Beth) Tubbs of San Marcos, California, Jeffrey Tubbs of Forest Lake, Kelli Rae Tubbs of Chisago; step-daughter Amanda (Kris) Guentzel of Minneapolis; grandchildren Derek Tubbs (Terra Santiago) of Gilbert, Arizona, Brittany Tubbs of Phoenix, Arizona, Timothy (Casey) Tubbs of Lino Lakes; step-grandchildren Harrison and Doris Guentzel; 4 great-grandchildren; brother Larry Tubbs of Weatherford, Texas; former spouse Beverly Peterson of Forest Lake; Godson Wayne (Lesa) Engel of Frazee; several nieces and nephews.
