Richard "Dick" Hipp, Jr. of Rush City passed away Monday, October 21, 2019 at Ecumen of North Branch at the age of 93.
Richard Dean Hipp, Jr. was born April 19, 1926 to Richard and Frances (Smith) Hipp, Sr. in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Dick attended high school in Minneapolis and graduated in 1944. He honorable served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946 as an Electricians Mate Third Class. Returning from the Navy, Dick attended college and enjoyed a 30 plus year career as an engineer at 3M. In the early 1960's, while at 3M, Dick was involved in the production of the initial copy machine. He designed and produced many 3M items and holds several product patents.
In 1973, after living in Circle Pines for many years, Dick moved to Rush City. In 1976, Dick built a home on Chippewa Hill, southeast of town, where he lived up until the time of his death enjoying nature.
Outside of work, Dick enjoyed competition trap shooting, art and photography. Later in life, Dick enjoyed fishing and camping and most recently golfing with his golf buddies until the age of 90. He also enjoyed a love of guns; shooting at targets and everything else around the house.
Dick is survived by his children Dan Hipp of Minneapolis, Kathy Hipp of Circle Pines, Brian (Jennifer) Witte and Mark (LaRayne) Witte all of Rush City.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Frances Hipp, Sr. and his sister Jackie.
A celebration of Dick's life is planned for Saturday, November 23, 2019 from 11 AM - 2 PM at the Rush City VFW.
