Richard "Dick" Raymond Johnson

June 18, 1937 — July 12, 2018

Richard "Dick" Johnson passed away peacefully Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Ecumen Assisted Living in North Branch at the age of 81.

Richard Raymond Johnson was born June 18, 1937 to Clarence and Helen (Chase) Johnson in Egan, South Dakota.

After high school Dick entered the Air Force and served for 4 years.  Six months of his service time was spent at Toul-Rosieres Air Base in France under the command of now retired Brigadier General Chuck Yeager.

In September of 1960, Dick married Phyllis Javers.  In 1969, they moved to Pine City.

Dick loved sports and was active in softball, bowling, pool leagues, and horseshoes.  As owners of Dick’s Rec, a local tavern/grill, he established foosball and pool tournaments and many high schoolers will remember calling this place a second home.  Dick’s Rec also had its own softball team and they were undefeated one year.  Dick remained active in bowling until he was 70 and played on a pool league until he was 80.

He is survived by his children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother Clifford.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents; Phyllis, his wife of 52 years; sister Cary; brother Jack.

A celebration of Dick’s life will be Sunday, August 5, 2018 from 1 - 4 PM at the American Legion in Pine City  The interment will take place Monday, August 6, 2018 at 10:30 AM in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
