Richard Roubinek

December 28, 1931 — February 8, 2025

Pine City

Richard Roubinek passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the age of 93. As Richard always said, he was the "Last of the pure Bohemians."

Richard was born on December 28, 1931 to Joseph Jr. and Anna (Tone) Roubinek on the family farm in Pine City, Minnesota. He attended Milburn School near the farm. From a young age, Richard found joy in fishing and the simple pleasures of farm life. In 1953, he proudly served in the United States Army in Korea post-war, often joking that he "left his appendix in Japan" after having it removed while stationed there before heading to Korea.

Upon his return in 1957, Richard worked at the mill in Pine City. On April 20, 1957, he married the love of his life, Betty Louise Nelson of Pine City. Together, they embarked on a beautiful journey, with Richard eventually taking over the family farm and becoming a dedicated dairy farmer. Richard and Betty were blessed with four wonderful children: Raymond, Timothy, Cindy, and Thomas, all of whom were raised with love and care on the family farm.

Richard had a deep passion for music and was a talented accordion player, also skilled with the guitar and banjo. His music brought joy to many, especially at family gatherings and nursing homes. Known for his incredible memory, Richard was the family historian, always ready to identify faces in old photos and share stories from the past. His intelligence and warmth made him a cherished resource for many.

After a heart attack in 2001, Richard retired from dairy farming but continued to work with his tractors, do mechanical work, and tend to the farm as needed. He also enjoyed going to threshing shows. In 2021, he faced another heart attack, leading to a lengthy hospital stay and eventually moving into a nursing home in Osceola, Wisconsin.

Richard is survived by his loving children Ray Roubinek of Pine City, Tim Roubinek of Cottage Grove, Cindy Roubinek of Pine City, Tom (Michelle) Roubinek of Woodbury; his adoring grandchildren Krista (TJ) Brownell and Adam Roubinek (Nikki) of Cambridge, Joshua Roubinek of Braham, Lauren Roubinek of Cottage Grove, Ryan (Allysa) Roubinek of Bemidji, Elise Roubinek, Lillian Roubinek, Andrew Roubinek all of Woodbury; precious great-grandchildren Kaia, Kaden, Edyn, Annie, Nora, Alivia; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Joseph Jr. and Anna Roubinek; wife of 49 years Betty Roubinek; daughter-in-law Sue Roubinek; brothers James (Gloria) Roubinek, Lawrence (Clara) Roubinek; sisters Emma (Milton) Haug, Albina (Norman) Scott-Russell, Martha (Adolph) Spinler, Rosie (Ed) Broz.
