Robert “Bob” Oscarson of Rush City passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017 at Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center in Wyoming at the age of 75. Robert (Bob) Frank Oscarson was born to Frank and Hazel (Peterson) Oscarson in Rush City, MN in 1942. Bob grew up with his sisters Joyce (Seale) and Lois (LaBeau) on a 80 acre farm in Rock Creek. Bob was confirmed at First Lutheran Church of Rush City and graduated from Rush City High School in 1960. Bob met his wife Gloria (Stream) at Moulton’s Roller Dome and married the love of his life on September 29, 1962. They lived in a small trailer home off of Hwy 61. Bob worked at Finger Hut in Mora until the facility burnt down in the early 1960’s. His father-in-law offered him a job at Stream Roofing where he was laid off during the winter months and so he found work at the Rush City Co-op Feed Mill. The Oscarson’s rented a cute little house in the alley off of 4th Street near the fairgrounds. Their daughter Debbie was born in 1963 and their son Dale was born in 1966. A pivotal doctor's determination that Bob’s lungs could not handle the dust of the mill, led him to a 42 year career at Plastech Research. In 1965, with a handful employees, Bob started as an assistant foreman at Plastech and was Gloria’s boss. With hard work and dedication, Bob was promoted to Warehouse Manager and years later promoted to Assembly Manager. In 1972, Bob and Gloria built their home in Shorewood Park on East Rush Lake. Over 28 years, this would be the best time of their lives; fishing, snowmobiling, gathering with many friends around Big O’s bar on Friday or Saturday. They would also enjoy Sunday afternoon horseshoes, Shorewood Park parties, maintaining his yard with countless hours of mowing, taking care of his numerous plants and flowers and many pontoon rides. Wanting to downsize, Bob and Gloria purchased their retirement home in August 1998, which brought them even closer to Plastech Research. They also, enjoyed over 22 years at Springvale Campground during the summer months. They played golf, cribbage, had cookouts, entertained family and friends, and participated in many activities offered by the campground. Bob and Gloria both retired on the same day in May 2006. Bob loved spending time with his children, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He faithfully served on the Rush City city council for 8 years and planned to give up his council seat on January 1, 2018. He was a lifelong member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, served as the First Lutheran Cemetery Board Treasurer, First Lutheran Finance Committee, was head usher and coordinated the bus driver schedule for the confirmation kids. Bob also worked with senior citizens at Adult DayBreak, served on the Rush City EDA, sat on Unity Bank’s Advisory Board, delivered meals on wheels, served meals at senior dining site, was President of the Senior Townhome Association, was involved with the Initiative Foundation, and enjoyed being on the Rush City Lions. In 2015, Bob’s health began to fail; however, he rarely complained and with help from his loving wife, Gloria, he was able to attend many functions and stay active in the Rush City Community. His kind, warm, and loving personality will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
