Robert "Doc" Mach passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at the age of 61.
Robert Alvin Mach was born September 9, 1962 to Alvin and Caroline (Hartman) Mach in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Doc was a curious adventurous boy. He loved reading and learning anything and everything, so he was a walking, talking encyclopedia. When Doc was 5 years old, his grandpa, Martin Hartman, who was a worker on Mount Rushmore in the 1930's, gave him his first tobacco pipe, without tobacco, which he cherished.
Doc was in the Army 101st Airborne from 1984-1992. He was a paratrooper, medic, sharp shooter and Chinook helicopter mechanic. His other accomplishments were scuba diving, OTR truck driver, big rig driver of wind turbines, pilot, chef of cordon bleu and a security guard. He worked at an underwater broadcasting system in Lake Havasu, Arizona.
After 9/11, Doc wanted to enlist again, but was unable to do so because of his age. He then worked for KBR as a civilian truck driver in Iraq from 2004-2009. He lost brothers and saw a lot that he never spoke about.
Doc traveled to Iraq, Mount Sinai, Egypt, Africa, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. In Iraq, he was stationed in Al-Asad Airbase, LSA Anaconda, Mosul.
Doc is survived by his father Alvin (Dah) Mach of Shoreview; sisters #1 Carol Raymond, # 2 Janet (Steve) Freedlund and # 3 Julie Johnson all of Harris; nieces and nephews Christina (Dean) Arrell of Hinckley, Sheldon Lund of Harris, Amy (Matt) Senholtz of Stanchfield, Jake (Hailey) Freedlund of Harris, Jennifer Johnson of Shafer; great-nieces and great-nephews Steven (Brittney) Arrell, Quinten Billman, Adam Senholtz, Savannah Senholtz, Ellie Freedlund, Kathryn Senholtz.
He was preceded in death by his mother Caroline Slotness; nephew Joe Kelley.
Doc's burial will take place on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 10:45 AM at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
A Celebration of Doc's Life will take place on Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 2-4 PM at Steve and Janet Freedlund's, 45340 Cedarcrest Trail, Harris, MN 55032.
