Roger "Kirk" Gilquist, formerly of Stark, passed away December 27, 2024 in Victoria, Texas at the age of 68.
Roger "Kirk" Gilquist was born to Roger and Doris (Holm) Gilquist at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis. He grew up living by Fish Lake near Stark, Minnesota and attended and graduated from the North Branch Schools.
In his early days he worked commercial farming for Duane Ecklund. He soon got his Commercial Driver's License and started RKG Trucking. He drove for Joe Carlson, Bob Erickson, and Bob Evans trucking over the span of his truck driving career. He had a love of all John Deere tractors from the early age of 10; when he first drove a tractor for a neighbor. He collected tractors and attended many tractor pulls with family.
Upon retirement, he and Melanie said good-bye to Minnesota winters and moved to Yoakum, Texas where they resided the past six years.
Roger is survived by his loving wife Melanie of Yoakum, Texas; children Traciann Gilquist (Mike Robbins) of Stacy, Amanda Gilquist of Pine City; sister Carol Gilquist (Jeanine Janos); grandchildren Brayson Parkin, Landen Parkin; many cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roger and Doris Gilquist; aunts Maryann Holm, LaVerne (Bob) Eastlack; uncle Walter Holm.
A family and friends gathering from 5-7:00 PM; Friday, January 17, 2025 at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City and an 8:00 PM "Celebratory Toast" at the Full Moon in Stark.
