Shirley Ann Peterson

July 30, 1930 — September 11, 2019

Shirley Peterson of Pine City passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at The Estates in Rush City at the age of 89.

Shirley Ann Stumne was born July 30, 1930 in Minneapolis, MN to Lester and Elizabeth (Felten) Stumne.  Shirley had a younger sister Kathy.  As a young child she lived in Pine City until the family moved to a farm near Pokegama Lake when she was a teenager.

Shirley met Lawrence “Larry” Peterson through church and catechism; they were married in 1950.  Together they had five children; Julie, Chris, Jeff, Les and Scott.  All of the children live in Pine City with the exception of Chris who lives in Minneapolis.

Larry and Shirley bought a farm east of Pine City and they enjoyed many years on the farm raising their family.  When the kids were older Shirley went to work at the Frances Ann Shop.  About 16 years ago they bought their retirement home in Pine City.

The constant guiding force in Shirley’s life was her Catholic faith.  She lived out her faith by making her family her number one priority.  One of her favorite activities was watching her children and grandchildren’s sporting events.  She also enjoyed sewing, music and dancing.  In her later years nothing gave her greater joy than visits from the great-grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her children: Julie Shores of Pine City, Chris Peterson-Stromgren (Jeff) of Minneapolis, Jeff (Marianne) Peterson, Les (Luann) Peterson, Scott (Renee) Peterson all of Pine City; grandchildren: Jacob (Sadie) Peterson of Pine City, Heidi (DJ) Bellefy of Chanhassen, Alan (Jessie) Shores of St. James, Amanda (Bryce) Johnson of Braham, Jared (Amanda) Peterson of Princeton, IN, Cole (Taylor) Peterson, Derek Peterson, Nick Peterson, Brad (Kim) Peterson, Travis (Cassie) Peterson all of Pine City, Kelsey Peterson of Superior, WI, Kate Stromgren of Minneapolis; great-grandchildren: Tali, Andrew, and Kate Bellefy, Elizabeth and Tristan Shores, Ben and Lucas Johnson, Breelyn, Madelaine and Samuel Peterson, Emmitt, Paxtyn and Macyn Peterson, Sully and Max Peterson; sister Kathy (Richard) Soens of Sandstone; 3 nieces; 1 nephew; many other relatives and friends.
