Veronica Stenlund battled cancer for 15 years and passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her home in Stacy on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the age of 61.
Veronica Lee was born February 19, 1957 to Thomas and Ramona (Garbot) Watters in St. Paul, Minnesota. Living in White Bear Lake with her family, she grew up passionate about the outdoors and horses. She loved horseback riding and at one time had 7 of her own horses. She attended school in White Bear Lake and graduated from White Bear Senior High School. Veronica was always a very independent lady and worked to purchase her very own first home Vadnais Heights.
In 1979, on July 7th she married Calvin Stenlund at St. Mary's Catholic Church in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Calvin and Veronica’s first home together was in St. Paul. Later they purchased a hobby farm in Forest Lake; this is the home where they raised their family. In 1997, they relocated to Stacy.
Veronica continued to be an outdoor enthusiast throughout life; she spent many wonderful weekends at the family cabin with her children and grandchildren. She loved telling stories, playing games or just sitting by a bonfire with family and friends. Veronica enjoyed many vacations with family; mountain climbing, hiking, kayaking and river-tubing. The Minnesota winters didn’t stop her; you could find her ice fishing or snowmobiling with family and friends.
Veronica was most passionate about her family and loved them very much. She will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
Veronica is survived by her husband Calvin Stenlund of Stacy; children: Shaun Stenlund of Forest Lake, Rebecca Stenlund of Stacy, Travis (Maranda) Stenlund of Stacy, Victoria Stenlund of Stacy, Dustin Stenlund of Grantsburg, Wisconsin; grandchildren: Josie, Ava, Codi Ziana and Zadie; many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Thomas Watters and Ramona Watters; brother Gary Watters; sister Melissa Willis; and grandchild Sunny Stenlund.
Monsignor Aleksander Suchan will celebrate Mass of Christian Burial for Veronica: 10:30 AM; Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pine City. A time for visitation and reviewal is planned for 1 hour prior to the service at the church in St. Anthony Commons. The interment will take place in Birchwood Cemetery, Pine City.
