Wallace "Wally" Darrel Linnell

Wally Linnell of Pine City Township passed away at Welia Health in Mora Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the age of 80. 

Wallace Darrel Linnell was born February 26, 1944 to Wallace and Ruth (Peterson) Linnell in Rush City, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm east of Pine City, attended country school through the eighth grade. In 1961, he graduated from Pine City High School.

Over the years, Wally was employed with; the Pine City Creamery, Gehl Oil, Land O' Lakes drying plant all in Pine City. In 1977, he decided to begin farming full-time. Wally married Theresa Blazek in 1965 and together they raised three sons; Todd, Shawn and Erick, sadly in 1987 Erick passed away. Wally became ill in 2000, the cows needed to be sold, and a beef herd was started. Wally was always on the go; baling hay in the summer and driving school bus for 20 years; never changing his route. 

In 2022, Wally retired, and his love of tractors took him to toy shows, tractor and threshing shows, and day trips with Theresa. He really enjoyed coffee with the guys and gals at McDonalds. He especially enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren and attending their hockey and tennis games. He kept the grass mowed at the National Cemetery east of Pine City for many years.

Wally is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Theresa Linnell; sons Todd (Michelle) Linnell, Shawn (Tina) Linnell; grandchildren Jenny Linnell, Ryan (Kailey) Linnell, Seth Linnell and Alana Linnell all of Pine City; many other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Wallace and Ruth Ann Linnell; son Erick Linnell.

Reverend Dr. Vicki Vander Vegt will officiate funeral services for Wally: 11:00 AM; Thursday, January 23, 2025. A time of visitation and reviewal from 4:30-7:00 PM; Wednesday (1/22) one hour prior to the service, all at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City.

Please dress casually, Wally liked blue jeans and flannel shirts!
