William Norman of Pokegama Township passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at his home at the age of 78.
William John Norman was born March 2, 1945 to Axel and Helen (Schwartz) Norman in Pine City. He grew up on a dairy farm west of Pine City and attended the Jarvis Bay Country School. In 1963, he graduated from the Pine City High School. Bill worked 27 years for Sears Roebuck in Minneapolis.
Bill was a volunteer Police Reserve Officer with the Brooklyn Park Police Department, where he met Jodi, his wife of 45 years. He is the father of four children: Darrell, Linda, Blake, and Brock. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, playing sports, gardening and many fishing trips and vacations with family and friends in northern Minnesota. Bill always loved the farm; in 2003 he built his dream home near the home farm. He lived on this piece of heaven for 20 years, enjoying wildlife and the farming community.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Jodi; sons Darrell (Bobbie) of Lindstrom, Blake (Emily) of Eden Prairie, Brock (Megan) of Blaine; grandchildren Axel (McKenna), Samantha, Mikaila, Vaughn, Stella, Mara; brother Jim Norman; sister Marjorie Osterdyk; nieces, nephews, in-laws and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents Axel and Helen Norman; daughter Linda; siblings Richard, Virginia LaDouceur and Marilyn Holum.
A Celebration of Bill’s life will be held 2 PM; Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the Henriette Free Methodist Church, 21004 MN-107, Grasston, MN followed by a luncheon in the church lower level. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. The interment will take place in Birchwood Cemetery, Pine City.
The Norman family wishes to thank family and friends for their concern and support during Bill's life; especially these last few months. Bill valued time spent and memories shared, his spirits were lifted by your phone calls and visits. Your affection and kindness are appreciated, and you will remain forever in our hearts with our memories of Bill, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
In lieu of flowers, Bill’s family requests memorials be made to the charity of your choice to honor Bill and hopefully make a difference in the lives of others.
