We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.
Mike Carroll, a 1975 University of Minnesota graduate, started his funeral career at the Evans- Nordby Funeral Chapel in Brooklyn Center and Osseo, MN. In 1981 after working for several years at the Henry W. Anderson Mortuary in south Minneapolis, Mike and business partner Dan Rinden purchased the Olson Chapel and Swanson Chapel from Orrin and Aileen Olson.
Shortly after moving to the Rush City/Pine City areas, Mike became involved in the health care needs of the communities. He served as a board member and chairperson of the Rush City Hospital Board, Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center Board and most recently the Fairview Health System Board. Mike has also been an active member of the Chisago County Hospice Board, the Rush City Commercial Club, Chambers of Commerce, Villages of North Branch (Ecumen), First State Bank of Rush City Board and the First Evangelical Lutheran Church Board. Mike currently sits on the Unity Bank Advisory Board, Rush City Economic Development Authority, Lakes Region EMS Board and the Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center Board in Wyoming.
Mike has three adult children; Tom (Lilly) Carroll of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Erin (Jason) Oare of Rush City and Britta Carroll of St. Paul, Minnesota. His small amount of free time is spent working around home, cooking, gardening, Minnesota Twins baseball games and traveling.
Kayleen grew up in New Prague, MN on a dairy farm and graduated from the University of Minnesota-Waseca majoring in Landscape Design, Maintenance and Turf Grass Technology.
Kayleen's early introduction to funeral service was through her grandfather. Funeral Director Albert G. Smisek served families in southern Minnesota for over 50 years. He owned and operated the Lonsdale Funeral Home in Lonsdale, MN. where Kayleen would help set up chairs for funerals and place names on the signboard.
Kayleen spent over 22 years in the East Chain and Fairmont MN areas where she worked as an Office Manager, an Administrative Assistant, a co-trustee of the East Chain Holy Family Cemetery and co-owner of a landscape business in East Chain.
In 2012, shortly after re-locating to Cambridge, Kayleen worked for UPS as a seasonal driver helper. In 2013 Kayleen began working part-time at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rush City and in 2015 she added working part-time for the Olson and Swanson Funeral Chapels.
Kayleen is actively involved in business administration at the funeral chapels as office director and excels in graphic design.
Kayleen has two adult children and five grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoys flower gardening, fishing, photography, riding on the Harley with her husband and spending time with her friends and family.
Judy grew up in Mora and after graduation she went to Anoka Ramsey Community College for accounting. While attending school, she worked part time at a real estate office. There, she met a Realtor who hired Judy as her personal assistant. Judy stayed in that position for nearly 20 years learning a great deal about customer service, integrity, and how important follow-up and details can be in many aspects of life.
In 2003, she married Doug Armstrong and they made their home in Rush City where they raised their two boys – Levi and Kyle. Judy left her job in the cities and worked various jobs while the kids were in school – children and family ministry coordinator at church, a paraprofessional at the elementary school, a customer service representative at an insurance office, and now working in the office at the Olson and Swanson Funeral Chapels.
In her free time Judy enjoys spending time with family and friends. She also volunteers with the Rush City Education Foundation and the Rush City Lions.
